Hotels in Montserrat

This charming Caribbean island has been tempting tourists for years with its volcanic landscape, secluded beaches and tranquil vibe. A hiking excursion to the Soufrière Hills volcano is a must, but helicopter tours are also available. Head to the south-west side to take in views from the observation deck. Many rainforests such as Centre Hills surround the area and are a great spot for viewing the natural wildlife such as tropical birds and bats. The abandoned city of Plymouth was deserted when the volcano erupted in 1995, but this ghost town is still worth a visit and makes for an eerily fascinating sight. Diving enthusiasts can explore the Montserrat Reef Project – home to over ten species of corals, as well as a variety of fish. The best beaches include the white sands of Rendezvous and Woodlands, but the breathtaking black-sand beaches (made up of tiny pieces of lava) are well worth a visit as well. Accommodation is fairly limited and can be found in Salem, Saint Peters and Cudjoe Head.
